JAMMU, May 4: The Jammu & Kashmir government has constituted a committee to examine alleged illegal mining and operation of stone crushers in and around River Tawi. The Government Order No 15- MNG of 2021, dated: 04 .05.2021, said that sanction is hereby accorded to the constitution of a committee comprising O P Bhagat, Director Geology & Mining, J&K Chairman, RC Kotwal, Director Finance I&C with additional charge of Mining Department Member, Dr Raj Kumar, I/c Dy Director, Geology & Mining Member Secretary and Romesh Gandotra, Assistant Mining Engineer Member for in depth examination of alleged illegal mining activities/operations of stone crusher units in and around river Tawi in violation of High Court directions. The order further said that the committee will examine issue of operation of crusher units in Tawi river since 2018, look into measures taken to curb illegal mining in Tawi river in compliance of High Court’s Order, suggest measures to curb all malpractices with respect of mining and processing of river bed material from Tawi river, suggest measures for allowing regulated mining and disposal of river bed material to prevent flash flood incidents and to examine the allegations made and the representations received about the high handedness of the department. The committee shall be serviced by Directorate of Geology and Mining Department, J&K and will submit its report within a week’s time, the order read. |
