5/7/2021 11:30:01 PM
Early Times Report

Srinagar, May 7: Sun played hide and seek though maximum temperature remained below normal at most places in Kashmir valley, where majority of the people offered Jumma'tul Vida, the last Friday of holy month of Ramazan, prayers at home in view of unabated rise in COVID-19 cases and deaths.
Meanwhile, the night temperature improved and settled above normal at most places in the valley, where wet weather is predicted during the next 48 hours in Kashmir valley.
A Met department spokesperson told that light rain and thundershowers would occur at some places during the next 48 hours in Kashmir under the influence of a Western Disturbance (WD), which is active in the region.
''Lightning and thundershowers with gusty winds (30-40 km/hour) could occur at isolated places during the next 48 hours in the valley,'' he added.
After witnessing above normal night temperature, people woke up to a sunny Friday morning in Srinagar. However, as the day progressed, the weather became cloudy though sun played hide and seek in the city, where the maximum temperature settled below normal. The mercury during the night improved a degree from Thursday and settled at 13.2 degree, which is about 3 degree above normal.
Roads and markets in the city remained deserted as restrictions were intensified on Friday to prevent congregational prayers in view of the COVID curfew to curtail the spread of the virus.
The spokesperson said the skies will be partly cloudy, and forecast rain and thundershowers towards the evening in Srinagar, where the maximum and minimum temperatures will settle at 23 degree and 12 degree, respectively.
Weather was pleasant in the world famous ski resort of Gulmarg, about 55 km from here in north Kashmir. The ski resort, where upper reaches are covered under several feet of snow, remained deserted as shops and business establishments were closed and traffic was off the roads in view of the lockdown.
''All the shops remained closed while ATV drivers and pony owners have been asked not to come to Gulmarg in view of COVID lockdown since April 29 evening,'' a hotelier told UNI.
However, he said tourists, who have already make bookings in the hotels, were allowed to enter the resort. ''Similarly, tourists, who had to go to other resorts or to the airport, were allowed to leave,'' he added. The night temperature at Gulmarg improved about 3 degree from Thursday and settled at 7.4 degree, which is about 2 degree above normal.
The night temperature at world famous health resort of Pahalgam, about 100 km from here in south Kashmir, improved about 3 degree from Thursday and settled at 7.4 degree, which is about 2 degree above normal. Sun played hide and seek in the resort though weather remained chilly due to cold winds.
The mercury during the night at Qazigund, gateway to the valley, Kupwara in north Kashmir and tourist resort of Kokernag settled at 11 degree, 8 degree and 9.8 degree, respectively.
