Upgrading government health infrastructure is the need of hour : Dr Udesh Paul Sharma | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, May 15: The fear of Covid-19 is big. The fear of being sent to the government hospital seems to be bigger. Unsurprisingly, suspected Covid-19 patients in many parts of the country have been running away from hospitals creating fear and outrage, pushing governments to pass laws. For the record, government facilities are at the forefront today in testing and treating suspected cases of Covid-19 patients in the country. For most Indians, this would be their first brush with government healthcare services. And especially for the relatively better off familiar with private institutions, government facilities would be a new experience. Social activist Dr Udesh Paul Sharma highlighted that in Jammu and Kashmir, the situation is not different. Here health infrastructure needs reshaping and upgradation given the fact that the situation has taken an ugly turn. The intersecting vulnerabilities are likely to pronounce more danger for people living in border district Poonch . In Poonch the health facilities in district Raja Sukhdev Singh Hospital is worst . At this second wave of Covid 19 ,there is still no installation of oxygen plant in District Hospital .Other issues being faced by common populace includes Jan Oshidi Kendra has been closed for the past more than one year which provides cost effective medicines at cheaper rates, number of post of specialists like dermatologist ,urologist, opthalmologist etc are vacant .If government health care facility will not be better then person will be forced to go for better private facilities .For better private healthcare facility people have to travel to Jammu that is 240 kms away from Poonch. DRDO did great job in Jammu where they built 500 bed hospital in short period of time. What DRDO did in Bhagwati Nagar Jammu in few days, they can do in Poonch also . India’s healthcare is heavily skewed towards the private sector. According to Emergo ,a global medical device consulting firm, distribution of healthcare spending between public and private in India is split 30:70. For most Indians who can afford it, visiting a government hospital for illnesses is among the last resorts. |
