JAMMU, June 1: The Joint expedition of JIM&WS collaboration with NIM successfully summited Mount Everest(8848.86m) at 0620hrs June 1st. This was the first of its kind a Joint Expedition by two National Institutes of Mountaineering under the leadership of Col I S Thapa, SM, VSM, MiD, Principal of JIM&WS and deputy leader Col Amit Bisht, SM, Principal of NIM. The expedition also marks the first International expedition by JIM&WS. The summiters includes Col Amit Bishit, Hav Mohammad Iqbal Khan, Hav Chander Negi, Mahafooz Ilahi from JIM&WS and Hav Anil Kumar Mr Deep Sahi from NIM, Lhakpa Nuru Sherpa, Pemba Tshering Sherpa, Parita Sherpa, Tshering Tashi Sherpa, Dorje Sherpa and Any Chhombi Sherpa. The team will halt at camp II today and by tomorrow is expected to be back at Everest Base camp. Two back to back cyclones Tauktae and Yaas in a span of 10days had a big impact on this year’s Everest expedition with blizzards, heavy snowfall, frequent quick change in weather conditions and avalanches a common occurrence. Along with the cyclone Covid 19 pandemic also made this year different from the previous year’s Everest expedition. |
