Early Times Report

Udhampur, June 1: Sub-standard material in road construction in Tehsil Panchari is giving problems to the locals. The road from Panchari to Dhanti in panchayat Suman about 14 km, was to be constructed under PMGSY in two phases with the stretch from Panchari to Nohmal about 7km in first phase and Nohmal to Dhanti about 7 km in second and work in the project is going on for the last about 10 -12 years but has not been completed as of now.
“In the last 12 years only phase one of the project has been completed while work on the second phase is still going on,” —an elder said adding that locals are eagerly awaiting completion of the vital road link. The locals informed that people of the adjoining areas staged a protest few days back after which the contractor was shunted out and work was given to a Jammu based contractor who started work of phase II but eyewitnesses informed that sub-standard is being used in the project and also videos goes viral on social media regarding sub standard material used in works. Some locals informed and alleged that the Sarpanch of the area is hand in glove with the contractor and he is supporting the contractor without any reason.
When contacted the Sarpanch refuted all such claims and said that sun-standard work will not be accepted. When contacted Ex En PMGSY Sub Division Reasi, Gulam Rasool said the completed sub-standard work has been dismantled by their team lead by their AEE and JE and the present work is properly being done under proper check and supervision.
