Early Times Report

Jammu, Jun 1: Himachal Academy of Arts Culture and Language, Government of Himachal Pradesh showcased Balwant Thakur the cultural diplomat of India in their prominent series ‘Sahitya Kala Samvaad’ here this evening.
‘Sahitya Kala Samvaad’ features the eminent cultural personalities who are considered to be the ultimate names of respective creative fields and Balwant Thakur is the first from the UT of Jammu & Kashmir to have the honour of having featured in that prestigious programme. At the very outset the Secretary Himachal Academy of Art Culture and Languages Karam Singh introduced to the online audiences the guest of the show Balwant Thakur and described his eventful inspiring creative journey from a village boy to the position of the Cultural Diplomat of the country.
Himachal Pradesh Government takes pride in the fact that Balwant Thakur’s first major directorial assignment was given by them. In the year 1988 Balwant Thakur’s outstanding talent was identified by Himachal Pradesh Government and they assigned him to create a mega theatre production covering the history of Himachal from vedic times to the day of the creation of separate Himachal state. This research based project involved extensive cultural study of the entire Himachal state and it took Balwant Thakur about a year to mount the mega production ‘Himachal’ with a team of over 100 artists, technicians and scholars. Interestingly this historic production received enormous appreciation and the ultimate work became a reference point for the younger generations who were exposed to their glorious past tracing from vedic times.
