Residents blame Jal Shakti Deptt for rise in Hepatitis, Typhoid cases in district | Doda drinks contaminated water | | Early Times Report
Jammu, June 1: Residents of Doda are up in arms against Jal Shakti Department for its failure to provide them with clean drinking water. Residents said that the water coming from the PHE filtration plant contains filth and is contaminated. “Typhoid and Hepatitis-B cases are very common in Doda,” they added. A resident Shamim Mir said, “When the cases of Hepatitis-B increased in Doda in the past the matter was brought into the notice of then Divisional Commissioner Jammu, he constituted a team to check the filtration plant and the source of water. The team was shocked to see the filtration plant, reservoir and the source of water. Filtration plant and reservoirs were dirty and had not been cleaned for a long time. The water source from where the water was being lifted too had garbage around it.” Mir said, “The then Divisional Commissioner after getting the first had information reached the spot and pulled up the Jal officials for their negligence. But a long time has passed since then and the PHE (Jal Shakti Department) is back to its old tactics.” Residents said, “The lackadaisical attitude of the officials has put our lives at stake. The government needs to take note of it and come for our rescue.” |
