| Mantalai to Latti road in shambles | | Residents mobilise themselves to repair roads | |  Early Times Report
Jammu, June 1: Tall claims of the government to provide well connected roads in far off areas have remained confined to papers only.
Poor condition of the Mantalai to Latti Road in Udhampur district, which has made the lives of locals miserable.
Despite repeated requests to the concerned department as well as the district administration for its repair, nothing has been done till date to repair the dilapidated roads. The road has literally become unfit for vehicles. After getting tired of the “non-seriousness” of the district administration, the local residents, who are generally poor, mobilised themselves to repair the road.
Although their efforts have not been solving their consistent problem, they still continue to fill the huge potholes developed on the road. At some places the entire family has been working to repair a dilapidated portion of the road.
A local resident, Noor Mohammad, who was filling the huge potholes on the road said that the entire stretch is full of potholes and the water collected in these ditches enters into their field, which damages their crops.
The vehicles can be seen plying like snails as there is huge risk of overturning and many such accidents have taken place so far but administration seems to be in deep slumber.
