ED summon to Mehbooba’s mother humiliating, vindictive politics: PAGD | | | EArly Times Report
Srinagar, July 7: The Peoples Alliance for Gupkar Declaration (PAGD) on Wednesday said that the summoning of Gulshan Nazir -- the widow of former Union Home Minister Mufti Mohammad Syed and mother of Mehbooba Mufti -- is humiliating. PAGD spokesperson Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami said that summoning of an old lady by the ED is nothing but pressure tactics of the government. ?This is nothing but part of vindictive policies to suppress dissent and disagreement and to silence the genuine demand for the reversal of unilateral and unconstitutional decisions of August 5, 2019,? he said. He said it is irony that Ms Gulshan was summoned just hours after the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) declined to meet the visiting Delimitation Commission. ?There are not enough words to condemn such coercive acts,? he said. He said muzzling the voices of dissent by using probe agencies against political opponents is unacceptable. ?PAGD strongly condemn the issuance of summon to Mufti's widow and demands that such vindictive measures must be put to an end immediately,? he added. Meanwhile, reacting to summon, Mehbooba in a tweet on Tuesday said, ?On the day PDP chose not to meet Delimitation Commission, ED sent a summon to my mother to appear in person for unknown charges. In its attempts to intimidate political opponents, GOI doesn't even spare senior citizens. Agencies like NIA & ED are now its tools to settle scores.? The PDP on Tuesday boycotted the Delimitation Commission, saying that the whole exercise was unconstitutional and pre-planned to favour a particular political party. The commission on Tuesday arrived here on a four-day visit to J&K to gather 'first-hand information on the process of redrawing Assembly constituencies in the Union Territory (UT)'. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Tuesday issued a summon to Gulshan Nazir to appear before it on July 14.
