Even after cancellation of pilgrimage, official website continues to offer registration | Shri Amarnathji Yatra | | Early Times Report
Jammu, July 7: Even as Shri Amarnathji Yatra has been formally cancelled for the year in the wake of Covid19 pandemic, the website of the Shrine Board continues to offer online bookings for the pilgrimage for 2021. The home page of the website https://jksasb.nic.in/index.html continues to offer the link for the registration for the pilgrimage. Interestingly a scroll on the homepage of the website says that the registration for pilgrimage for the year shall start soon. The hyperlink for registration is also operational. “Online registration for Shri Amarnathji Yatra 2021 shall open soon,” reads the scroll message on the website. A link on the website http://www.shriamarnathjishrine.com/index.html also takes you to the same registration page. This link reads that “Click here to Register online.” The devotees said it was unfortunate that the government was “so callous towards the revered pilgrimage that it didn’t even bother to post an update that registrations for current year have been cancelled in the wake of the pandemic.” “The failure of the concerned to update the website is enough to explain how concerned the government is,” the devotees said. It is pertinent to mention that on June 21 the Shri Amarnathji Yatra was cancelled for the second year in a row amid the COVID-19 pandemic. Earlier, in view of the evolving COVID-19 situation, registration for Amarnath Yatra was temporarily suspended. The Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board had said that the situation is being constantly monitored. The 56-day Amarnath Yatra was due to start simultaneously on both routes from June 28 and culminate on Raksha Bandhan, August 22. The Office of the Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir had tweeted: “It’s important to save people’s lives. So, it is not advisable to hold and conduct this year’s pilgrimage in the larger public interest.” The Yatra will be “symbolic only” but “all traditional religious rituals shall be performed at the Holy Cave Shrine,” the Lieutenant-Governor’s office had said. When contacted senior official while talking to the Early Times on the condition of anonymity said it could “a small error on the website.” |
