Many areas including Gangyal were submerged during the recent rain | Cleanliness campaign only for the photo session: Satish Sharma | | Early Times Report JAMMU, July 10: The first rain of the rainy season has exposed the Municipal Corporation of Jammu. The cleanliness drive of the BJP-ruled Jammu Municipal Corporation was limited only to the photo session and the truth is that today half an hour's rain has submerged the entire Jammu city. Satish Sharma, former chairman of the Municipal Corporation for Health and Sanitation and senior Congress leader, explained after taking stock of the waterlogging caused by rain on the Barsati Nala Model Town Satwari Kunjwani Highway of Gangyal Ward 56. Satish said that during our tenure, we had constructed the rain drain of Gangyal at a cost of Rs 70 crore from the IRA department, after which the people of many areas including Gangyal Ward 56 Shankar Colony Ward 55 Chhani Himmat got relief for 4 years. But since the BJP has taken over the Jammu Municipal Corporation, the people of the low-lying area have faced problems again. For this, only one JCB was installed and that too went back after cutting the bushes from above. Satish said that today due to half an hour's rain, the drain had overflow, if it had rained for one more hour, the water would have entered in people's homes. Satish said that until the big four holes of the drain built in Sector 2 are not cleared of debris, then there will be danger of flooding on Gangyal and nearby people. He said that the length of those four holes is very high and the width is less, so the JB machine cannot go in it, but they can be cleaned manually only by employing labour. Satish has demanded from the Commissioner of Jammu Municipal Corporation that he himself should take cognizance of this drain, otherwise this time also due to floods, people will suffer a lot. |
