Early Times Report
RAMBAN, July 10: Government Degree College, Ramban, in collaboration with district administration today organized a one day seminar on "Mental Health Problems in Youth" under the ongoing nationwide campaign of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav-India @75.
Deputy Commissioner, Ramban, Mussarat Islam, was the chief guest and Principal of host college, Dr.Mohsin Bashir Dar was the special guest. Faculty members and a large number of students participated in the seminar amid strict adherence to Covid safety protocols.
Driti Sharma was adjudged overall best and Gurbeet Singh secured second position whereas Sonali Sharma and Khushboo Nazar shared the third position.
In his inaugural address, the DC threw light on mental health and said that looking after mental health can preserve a person's ability to enjoy life. Doing this involves making a balance between life activities, responsibilities and efforts to achieve psychological resilience, he added.
The DC also emphasized that people should be more attentive towards mental health fitness in comparison to their physical health fitness. He also answered the queries in detail raised by the speakers.
While appreciating the college management for organizing a seminar on a very relevant issue, the DC said that the information imparted during the seminar served to be an eye-opener for the young students. The learning from the event would go a long way in tackling mental and emotional issues.
The DC advised the students to hold group discussions, use social media judiciously and convert peer pressure into a healthy competition to avoid unnecessary mental pressure which affects their progress in achieving their targets.
Majority of speakers shared that 'Mental Health Problems in Youth' has emerged as a big challenge for society especially amid the Covid pandemic. The shift in the lifestyle, over-dependence on digital platforms and distance from social activities are posing a serious threat to the personality development of youth, the speakers noted with concern.
The College Principal threw light on the importance of mental health and issues of mental wellbeing. He suggested various measures to overcome mental stress including developing hobbies like singing, yoga and taking part in social activities.
