Early Times Report JAMMU, July 15: Department of Linguistics and Literature, School of Humanities and Liberal Arts, Cluster University of Jammu, organised weekly " Invited Lecture Series" in the month of July in which distinguished and eminent resource persons from different universities of India delivered lectures on important aspects of linguistics and literature. Dr. Gopal Parihar, Assisstant Professor of Linguistics, Jawahar Lal Nehru University, Delhi, deliberated on the "Basics of Phonetics". The speaker deliberated on the basics of phonetics and mentioned the vedanta and Shiksha traditions of Indian grammatical systems. He elaborated on the manner and place of articulation of consonants and production of vowels and gave examples from the different languages. Dr. Gulab Chand, Assisstant Professor, AMITY University, Gurgaon, in his interactive lecture focused on the "Reduplication Processes" in the language with the examples from languages like Hadoti, Hindi, English. He further gave a comprehensive presentation on the use of reduplication in our daily speech. Dr. Urjani Chakraborty, Assisstant Professor of Linguistics, VIT, Chennai, talked about "Conversational Implications". Dr. Chakraborty discussed roles of conversation, the cooperative principle and four rules of maxims that people involved in conversations tend to respect with examples, she explained the maxim of quality, quantity, relevance and manner. Dr. Hari Madhav Ray, Assistant Professor, Jawahar Lal Nehru University, Delhi, focused on Discourse Analysis. He gave a comprehensive and detailed lecture covering discourse analysis, primary discourse, secondary discourse, development alignment and allegiance and elaborated with illustrations. Dr. Rashmi Attri, Professor, department of English, AMU, in her guest lecture presented her views on Drama starting from the basics of drama and different aspects of the genres. She gave quotations and examples from the Greek and British Dramas. The lectures were followed by interactive sessions with students. Udita Sawhney, former early career researcher at the university of Edinburgh and presently research scholar at JNU delivered a series of lectures on "Socio-Cultural Aspect of Language" , "Grammatical Gender", "Syntax" and "Phonology", thereby providing comprehensive and detailed information on the topics. The invited lecture series was successfully conducted under the patronage and encouragement of Vice Chancellor, Prof Bechan Lal, the Chief patron of the event. Prof. Bhopinder Singh, Dean Academic Affairs, Patron of the event provided his unflinching support and motivation for the conduct of the lecture series. The lecture series was conducted under the guidance and supervision of Dean Faculty of Arts, Dr. Geetanjaji A Rana. Dr. Reena Salaria, Coordinator of the department of Linguistics and Literature welcomed the resource persons and introduced the various topics of the lecture series. Bharti Magotra and Akanksha Sharma, faculty of the department presented vote of thanks on various occasions. The series gave an opportunity to the students to interact with the eminent guest speakers from various national universities and provided them with the opportunity to update and receive in-depth knowledge. |
