Amarnath Yatra cancelled but no Covid SoPs followed at tourist destinations in Kashmir | Jammu’s business community badly affected | | Early Times Report
Jammu, July 15: The business community of Jammu has reason to air their concern over the cancellation of this year’s Shri Amarnath Yatra due to Coronavirus. Battling for survival after two back-to-back lockdowns due to Coronavirus, traders and shopkeepers of Jammu province were hoping that this year’s Amarnath Yatra would bring their life on the track, but J&K authorities decided to cancel this year’s Yatra also. The business community has reason to raise concern over the decision of the J&K government because there are no restrictions on the number of people visiting various tourist destinations. Thousand and thousands of people, during every weekend, throng tourist destination but authorities failed to control their number. Wishing anonymity, a leader of the traders said that a huge influx of people at various tourist destinations across J&K are posing threat to the lives of the people, but authorities failed to take any action. He argued instead of completely cancelled the pilgrimage, authorities should have allowed Yatra by regulating the number of pilgrims so maintain the religious sanctity of the holy cave. Many shopkeepers pointed towards ongoing pilgrimage of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi. “Why not the same yardstick is adopted for the Amarnath Yatra?”, they asked and regretted that decision to cancel Yatra has taken in a hasty manner. The decision to cancel Yatra would adversely impact the business and economy of the people dependent on Yatra. Amarnath Yatra cancellation certainly affect business and the economy, which is already on the decline. There was an expectation that the Yatra will normally run this year. For the last three years, the Yatra has seen cancellation which impacted the lives and livelihood of those dependent on this Yatra for their business. |
