Activists visit Rajpura Basti to take stock of public issues | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, July 20: Activists from different organization today visited Rajpura to take stock of the ground realities of Gujjar Basti at Rajpura Mandi. Mohd Akram State General secretary Gujjar Bakarwal youth welfare conference, H R Rehman Founder cum Chairman of Global Human Rights Trust , Activist and leader of Apny party Danish Iqbal among other activists visited spot to get to know the situations of Gujjar Bakarwal community who were harassed by Forest and police for their personal interest. While speaking to media H R Rehman said, that they are bonafide citizens of Jammu and Kashmir but unfortunately their sorrowful condition is painful. He said that they are in habitation since 50 years along with their livestock but unfortunately forest department is harassing them for their personal interest even the said community is residing there from last 40 to 50 years. Locals revealed that department of forest with the help of local police lodged numerous false and frivolous FIR for trespassing of their livestock into the forest land. Rehman further said if FRA is implemented and the process is going on in Jammu and Kashmir but why our people of Rajpura are deprived from taking benefits of the rights ensured under FRA to forest Dwellers and Gujjar bakarwal. While speaking to media Mohd Akram lambasted on the local administration for the painful conditions of Gujjars in Rajpura and said the people are deprived from the FRA implementation intentionally. Akram said its really unfortunate that the police in garb of land belonging to forest harassing the real custodians Gujjar Bakarwal and depriving them from taking the benefits under FRA. He seeks LGs intervention for early redressel of issues and demand providing of all basic facilities to them. |
