Discrimination: Jammu ignored yet again | IUST in Kashmir gets Rs 609 lakhs to develop sports infrastructure; out of Rs 816 crore Jammu gets nothing | | Early Times Report
Jammu, July 20: Notwithstanding tall claims of the BJP to end discrimination with Jammu region, step-motherly treatment with ‘nationalist’ people is going on unabated. J&K’s transition into a Union Territory has not helped Jammu’s cause. Shockingly Jammu region does not figure in the list of the educational institutions that were provided financial assistance to sports infrastructure across the country. In a written reply to the question of Dr. Amee Yajnik in the Rajya Sabha, Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports, Anurag Singh Thakur informed that financial assistance has been provided to 27 educational institutes across the country for sports. In the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, only Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST) Awantipora, Pulwama was selected for granting financial assistance for development of sports infrastructure. An amount worth Rs 609 lakhs has been sanctioned for laying of synthetic athletic track at Islamic University Science & Technology (IUST) Awantipora, Pulwama. Already Rs 557 lakh has been released for the completion of this project. The Union Minister said that under the “Promotion of rural and indigenous/tribal games” vertical of the Khelo India Scheme Mallakhamb, Kalaripayyattu, Gatka and Thang-Ta have been receiving support. Grants have been sanctioned for infrastructure development, equipment support, appointment of coaches, training of coaches, and scholarships. “A total of Rs. 8.16 crores has been spent for promotion of rural and indigenous/tribal games. Scholarships have been sanctioned for 335 medal winners”, he said. |
