Early Times Report

Poonch, July 20: Despite recommending lodging of FIRs twice by the Power Department Surankote against a Panch of village Pamrote of Mohalla Charallan no action has been taken against the accused till date.
According to the details available with Early Times the Power Department had lodged the complaint against an employee of the department, who also happens to be a Panch, on the charges of electrical theft case and for creating hurdles in the smooth functioning of the department.
“Panch Mohammad Rafiq Khan son of Nanjam Din had created hurdles in functioning of the department when its officials were erecting poles in the area. Due to some animosity with a resident he had stopped the employees from providing a power connection to a local resident,” said a source.
Although the PDD had installed electrical poles along with wires, the Panch didn’t allow them to give connection to the applicant. After seeing the inappropriate behaviour of the Panch, the AEE PDD Surankote approached Police Station Surankote and lodged a formal compliant against him for creating obstacles, but no action has been taken till date.
Instead of lodging FIR, the concerned SHO appointed an Investigating Officer (IO) but he didn’t visit the spot and didn’t take statements from the local residents, alleged Sameer Ahmand Malik, who had applied for the power connection.
He further alleged that the issue has been lingering on for the last six months due to which they have been facing huge inconvenience. “We also brought this matter into the notice of Deputy Commissioner Poonch, who also directed the concerned tehsildar for looking into the matter. Tehsildar after investigating the matter also asked the police to lodge an FIR against the Panch,” he informed.
“The Panch, went a step forward and dismantled the electrical pole installed by the PDD. When the concerned JE was informed about it, he visited the spot along with lineman and found the complaint true and immediately lodged a complaint with Police Station Surankote on 12-7-2021 demanding FIR against Panch but again the same IO was sent for investigation who further informed his senior that no pole has been dismantled or stolen, which was absolutely false,” he alleged.
When Early Times contacted the SHO Surankote in this connection, he said that he has taken the charge recently and a new Investigating Officer will be appointed to look into the matter.
