Pak handler held by Jammu Police spills beans; reveals areas of recce, weapons airdropped from drones | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, July 20: Almost more than a week of his arrest by the alert Jammu Police, the Pakistani handler during questioning spilled beans revealing locations of which he conducted recce and the areas where weapons were airdropped from drones for its further transportation to the Kashmir valley. Sources privy to the investigation on Sunday told UNI that the arrested terrorist was on one week police remand, which has further been extended, adding, “during questioning, he confessed his involvement in transporting arms, ammunition airdropped from flying objects in the recent past to the Kashmir valley.” “As a part of investigation, the terrorist was also taken to locations he identified of which he conducted recce and also the areas from where he collected the weapons for its further delivery,” sources said. They said that though he was a truck driver but was tech-savvy and was in touch with his handlers across the border and on their dictations, he used to carry terrorist activities in the region. “He is being questioned and it has also been learnt that one of his accomplices has escaped to the Valley when came to know about his arrest but a manhunt is on to nab him,” sources said. On July 11, team from Gangyal Police Station under the guidance and supervision of Jammu South Police headed by Senior Superintendent of Police, Jammu, Chandan Kohli, Jammu Police foiled a bid of smuggling weapon, explosives recovering from a truck driver identified as Muntazir Manzoor of Prischoo, Pulwama. “One pistol and two hand grenades were recovered from the vehicle after which the driver was arrested,” police said. As per initial investigation, the driver has divulged that this consignment of weapon, grenades was dropped by drone from across the border and handlers from across tasked him to carry this consignment upto Kashmir valley. Pertinent to mention here that Jammu police is working hard on anti militancy front and many terror plots have been foiled in recent past that include recovery of an IED weighing 5.5 KGs and arrest of accused who was tasked to carry out a major IED strike in Jammu but the plot was foiled. Jammu and Kashmir Director General of Police, Dilbag Singh on Monday, while chairing a high level joint security meeting here to review the security scenario in Jammu Zone, directed officers to remain extra cautious and alert. “Ensure high alertness, especially in the border areas and hinterland to check any infiltration attempt,” the J&K Police Chief said adding, “terror outfits are continuously attempting to use drones for terrorist activities so remain extra vigilant and alert to foil their evil attempts.” He also stressed on strengthening of Police Posts and Nakas in border areas. After obtaining the district assessments of prevailing security situations and arising challenges, the DGP directed the officers to strengthen and augment the security grids in their respective areas for the safety and security of the people.
