BANIHAL, July 20: Government Degree College Banihal organized a webinar on the occasion of National Reading/Digital Reading day.
According to press release, the Debates and Seminars committee of the college in collaboration with NSS and NCC unit organized the webinar to commemorate the annual remembrance day of P N Panicker, the Father of Library and Literacy movement, who made the simple slogan, "Read and Grow" into a powerful movement.
The Resource person on this occasion was Dr Sheikh Mohamad Imran, Officer in charge, Library Administration, University of Kashmir.
In his welcome address, worthy Principal of the college, Dr Manohar Lal welcomed all the participants to the Programme and presented his introductory remarks about the Programme.
The Resource person on this occasion presented a comprehensive talk on the evolution of books and libraries and highlighted the importance of reading books for the overall development of personality. He stressed upon students to inculcate the habit of reading in themselves. He also highlighted the role of digital libraries in the modern day academic life.
Prof Mukhtar Ahmad Mir, Head Department of Political science later on presented vote of thanks on this occasion. The Programme was moderated by Prof Sajad Ahmad Sultan, convener Debates and Seminar committee of the college.
