8/9/2021 12:18:37 AM

Early Times Report

Srinagar, Aug 8: Despite significant decline in the number of COVID-19 cases in Jammu and Kashmir, the administration on Sunday extended the suspension of class work in all educational institutes -- including schools, colleges and universities -- till further order in the Union Territory.
As many as 142 people, including 83 from Kashmir and 59 from Jammu, tested positive for COVID-19 on Saturday in the Union Territory, where there are only 1410 active positive cases.
An order issued by the J&K Chief Secretary Dr Arun Kumar Mehta, in his capacity as the Chairperson of State Executive Committee of the State Disaster Management Authority, said that all schools and higher educational institutes, including coaching centers, shall continue to remain closed for in-person teaching till further order.
However, it said that educational institutes are permitted to seek personal attendance of limited vaccinated staff for administrative purposes and Independence Day celebrations subject to limit of 25 and strict adherence to COVID Appropriate Behaviour.
The order further said that there will be no weekend curfew in any district though night curfew will continue to remain in force across the Union Territory from 2000 hrs to 0700 hrs. “
It said the maximum number of people permitted to attend any indoor or outdoor gathering has been restricted at 25.
“However, this ceiling shall be temporarily relaxed on August 15 only on account of Independence Day celebrations, subject to COVID Appropriate Behaviour to be ensured by all District Magistrates,” it added.
