JAMMU, Aug 17: Former Minister and State Vice President BJP Sham Lal Sharma today honoured meritorious students who excelled in sports as well as in the board exams.
In this connection, a program was organized by Shaheed Bhagat Singh Sanstha Mishriwala in which Sham Lal Sharma was the chief guest.
Speaking on the occasion, Sham Sharma first appreciated the efforts of Shaheed Bhagat Singh Sanstha for acknowledging the talent of the students in academics as well as in sports. He said that extra-curricular activities are an essential component of the education process for preparing the students to effectively face future challenges.
The former minister said that the aim of education is not merely passing examinations but to develop the personality of the students. He said that alongside academic pursuits other activities like sports provide an excellent opportunity for the youth to exhibit and develop their creative talents. The BJP leader said Jammu has traversed a long way over the years with its youth making a big mark in every sphere of activity-art, sports, academics and culture. He advised the students to stay focused for their goals and redouble their efforts to excel in life.
Sham Lal Sharma also urged youth to take a lead in the decisive battle against drug menace He requested the prominent and Civil Society to play a vigilant role in society to defeat the crucial battle against drugs. He further said that cooperation of every section of the society is must to liberate our younger generation from the yoke of drug addiction.
On the occasion, Commandant BSF Dr Karnail Singh, former Sarpanch Gurdev Singh, former Sarpanch Mishriwala Gurbachan Singh, Retired Head Teacher Avtar Singh, Mandal President Raipur Domana Constituency Ashok Kerni, Madan Lal Sharma, Joginder Singh, Rajinder Kumar and Chanchla Devi were also present.
