College teachers observes pen down strike
8/20/2021 10:20:06 PM
Early Times Report
JAMMU, Aug 20: The College Teachers across the UT of J&K observed two day pen down strike in favour of their long pending demands.
The demands/issues that have been long neglected by the administration were highlighted during the press conference held by Dr Rakesh Jasrotia, President, JKCTA-Jammu.
Their issues include restoration of advanced increments for higher qualifications, regular DPCs with monetary effect from the date of eligibility, immediate adoption of UGC Regulations-2018 without any further delay by issuing the required Statutory Order (SO) for the same, adoption of the provision of Study Leave to the College Teachers for the pursuit of higher qualifications as per UGC Regulations-2018. He said despite representing the issues to Advisors to the LG, Financial Commissioner, Secretary HED and even to Manoj Sinha, LG himself, the ground situation doesn't seem to have changed at all in spite of the clear cut directions and minute of the meeting in this regard.
There seems to be administrative inertia that has set in as far as the genuine demands/issues of the college teachers are concerned. He emphasized that college teachers in addition to their teaching assignments have also performed all the duties with full dedication during the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic.
He said the RUSA document and New Education Policy-2020 for higher education gives primacy or central focus to the teachers for the holistic development of the higher education in India but its neglect by the administration of UT of J&K is incomprehensible. It clearly shows existence of contempt for the college teachers at certain level because of which the right policy intent of the Govt. At higher levels is not materialized at the ground level.
Further, he asserted that long neglect of the genuine issues of College Teachers in the UT of J&K has led to the development of resentment among them and now they are compelled to adopt hard path. So, from 23rd to 28th August,2021, all the College Teachers of JK UT will wear black ribbon on their arms as a mark of resentment against the apathetic attitude of the Govt. Towards their genuine issues and from 30th August, 2021, they will boycott the NAAC process being carried out in the colleges.
