Parthenium awareness camp organized at Khandwal village | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Aug 20: AICRP Weed Management, Division of Agronomy, organized a Parthenium awareness camp at village Khandwal, Satwari Block in Jammu District today under the aegis of Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology Jammu (SKUAST-J). On this occasion, Dr. Pradeep Wali, Associate Director Research, SKUAST-J, grace this programme and he explained that parthenium popularly known as carrot weed and it is considered as one of the most problematic very hardy weed of the world, it has now spread throughout the country including Jammu region. Dr B R Bazaya, Senior Scientist and Incharge, AICRP-Weed Management highlighted harmful effects of Parthenium on crops and humans as it causes many skin diseases and allergies in both humans and animals. He advised farmers and the public to start vigorous campaign to eradicate Parthenium completely at village level. Dr R Puniya Jr. Scientist, AICRP Weed Management explained about the physical, chemical and biological control measures for management of Parthenium. More than 30 farmers participated in this programme. The programme ended with a vote of thanks by Dr R Puniya, Jr. Scientist, AICRP Weed Management, SKUAST-Jammu. |
