Early Times Report JAMMU, Aug 23: The train service remained hit for the third consecutive day on Monday due to farmers staging sit-in on Jalandhar-Ludhiana railway track demanding revision in Sugarcane price. Farmers seeking hike in sugarcane prices have blocked rail tracks and a national highway in Jalandhar. However, Diesel Multiple Units (DMUs) between Pathankot-Udhampur are operating smoothly. Vaishno Devi pilgrims were the worst hit due to cancellation of trains. "Due to farmers' protest, many Jammu bound trains were canceled and no train departed from Jammu Tawi Railway Station for Delhi and other destinations," a railway official said. "Farmers have blocked the rail track at Phagwara and Jalandhar to press the government for their demands," the official said further asserting that on Monday, trains coming from Delhi to Jammu were also canceled including New Delhi-Jammu Tawi, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra Super Express Special, Shri Shakti Special, Vande Bharat, Barmer-Jammu Tawi, Mail Express, Jammu Mail and Jammu Tawi Special Train. "Many long distance trains coming to Jammu were stopped at Ludhiana Railway Station," they said. Also, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra-Kota Special, Shri Shakti, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra-New Delhi and Jammu Mail Express leaving from Jammu could not depart from Katra Railway Station and the Jammu Tawi Railway Station. "Due to changes in the route, some trains are also running late by a few hours from their scheduled time thus causing inconvenience to the passengers," an official said. Reports from Katra added that Vaishno Devi pilgrims are the worst hit due to cancellation of trains. |
