Bureaucrats mislead LG Sinha yet again | ‘Common man, his children can’t play golf, it’s an expensive sport’ | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Aug 23: In yet another instance of bureaucrats misleading J&K Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha, officials are making him believe that everyone, including children of poor people can play golf. Golf is one of the most expensive sports as it cannot be played without the help of caddies and the small vehicles that are needed for a player to move from one spot to another. The golf playing kit costs a fortune and it’s impossible for a common man to afford such an expensive kit. In July this year LG Sinha launched one of the oldest golf clubs in Srinagar. He announced that a similar golf academy with national-level training facilities will be launched in Jammu soon as J&K aspires to be the golfing capital of the country. “We have made golf accessible to the common man. It is no longer the game of the elite,” the LG had said. An observer while talking to Early Times said, “It appears that LG Sinha was fed with wrong information by the officials around him. “It takes 2 hours to play nine holes and more than 4 hours to play 18 holes. We don’t see commoners playing golf as it has never been a game of a common man.” He said, “A common man is struggling to survive. He cannot afford to spend two to four hours for playing golf. He needs basic amenities and a permanent source of income to sustain. One cannot expect him to play golf amid a crisis.” An official wishing not to be named said, “You can check the records and see for yourself who are the people who visit golf clubs to play the golf. It’s an expensive game which a common man and his children cannot afford to play.” |
