8/24/2021 2:07:39 PM

JAMMU, August 23: District President, Jammu Urban of Apni Party among dozens of party leaders and workers were today detained by Jammu and Kashmir Police when they tried to block vehicular traffic on Tawi Bridge near Dogra Chowk.
Led by Apni Party, District President, Jammu Urban, Pranav Shagotra, the protesters gathered at Press Club and moved towards the Dogra Chowk where the strong contingent of JKP stopped them.

However, the Apni Party leaders and workers did not stop and continued moving towards Dogra Chowk to stop vehicular traffic in protest against the price rise of essential commodities.

The police force barricaded the road and blocked the road and then they detained dozens of Apni Party leaders including District President, Jammu Urban, Pranav Shagotra.

They were taken to the District Police Lines, Jammu, and later released.

Earlier, while speaking to the protesters, Shagotra said that the price rise of essential commodities has made the livelihood more difficult for the poor people, lower middle class and middle class people.

“The petrol and diesel prices are at an all time high in history. However, there is no relief being offered to the people by the Govt. The Govt.’s intervention is to check the prices of essential commodities and the black market must be stopped,” he said.

He said that “There is no control over the inflation of commodities. The business is down and the people in general are suffering. There should be a policy from the Govt. to control the inflation of rates of essential commodities.”

He further said that the BJP which claimed to be the sole representative of Jammu has collapsed and its leaders are not coming out in the public to face them.

“They were voted to power by the people of Jammu, but they breached the trust of Jammu as they were unable to fulfill the promises of development and employment,” said the District Jammu, Urban President, of Apni Party.

Prominent among the protesters who were detained by JKP includes Vice President, Vaibhav Mattoo, General Secretary, Sardeesh Rana, General Secretary, Atul Sharma, Provincial Coordinator, Youth Wing, Vipul Bali, Secretary, Ashraf Choudhary, Secretary, Mohammed Asif, Secretary, Abhishek Goswami, Organizing Secretary, Deepak Bradu, Media Coordinator Ankit Sood, Joint Secretary, Salman Choudhary, General Secretary, Apni Trade Union, Dalbir Singh, Apni Trade Union leaders, Farooq Chauhan, and others.
