Early times report

Udhampur, Aug 27: Believe it or not, there is no road facility in Panchayat Jig falling in tehsil Chenani of Udhampur district in J&K even after 75th Independence Day defying the claims of bureaucrats that no village in J&K UT will be left without road facility.
Apart from this route, there are many other villages, which are without proper road facility which can be gauged from the fact that villages like Ganshand , Bajeen , Nadsu etc in the same Panchayat have no road despite the fact that panchayat has population of about 1500-2000 souls.
“Work on a road from Marothi to Chajj was started under PMGSY in the year 2017 wherein the road was to be constructed in two stretches from Marothi- Ganshand (8km) and from Ganshand to Chajj (5.5) km,” locals informed adding that of this 13.5 km only 6-7 stretch has been completed so far that too with single earth work and progress of work has snail and concern contractor working very slowly , they added. Sources informed that there were clear directions from Centre to complete the work by March 2022 but working of this speed not possible to complete the construction of road.
At a place near Nadsu of Jig panchayat people use a plank over river Tawi to cross it and go to another panchayats and hundreds of people daily moving on this wooden plank but same becomes impossible in rainy days and some people have died while crossing the Tawi river but administration has failed to made a small foot bridge of these peoples. As most of the locals of the area are farmers bridge over the river is their dire need as they have to move their agriculture outputs for sale”, Noor Alam a local informed. When contacted XEn PMGSY, Devi Deyal said work on the road is on but the pace of work by the contractor is very slow though notices have been served to him by the Chief Engineer. He assured action against the contractor if he fails to honour the deadline of work completion.
