JAMMU, Sept 15: The Big Butterfly Month India 2021 is to celebrate and dedicate the month of September to one of the most loved, beautiful and colourful little creature-Butterflies. The aim is to conduct a nationwide citizen science survey assessing the health of our environment. In this context, Department of Zoology Government Degree College R.S. Pura under the patronage of Principal, Dr. G.S. Rakwal in collaboration with IQAC-NAAC, GGM Science College organized a Webinar cum Workshop on “Butterfly Identification and its Count.” The speaker for the event was Dr. Shakha Sharma, Assistant Professor and BBMI-2021, State Coordinator, J&K. She gave information about different types of butterflies, their importance, their role in pollination and how their number is declining day by day because of the use of chemicals, pesticides and the depleting flora. She gave information about the life cycle and methods of rearing of different types of butterflies and encouraged the students to develop butterfly gardens as a part of eco-tourism. |
