Kuntwara residents struggle to cremate dead | | | Asif Iqbal Naik
Early Times Report
Jammu, Sept 14: Visuals showing residents of Kuntwara village in Kishtwar District removing the boulders and debris from the path leading to cremation site on the bank of river Chenab have gone viral. According to the details available with Early Times, the narrow path leading to the cremation ground suffered damages due to ongoing road construction work in the area. “We have been left with no other option other than to clear the bridal path on their own to shift the bodies for the cremation,” locals said. They said in absence of the road to the village situated in the opposite direction of National Highway, they have to travel several kilometres on foot to reach the cremation site. “Path leading to the cremation site is dangerous and we have to put our lives at stake. But we have no option as we have to perform the last rites of the deceased,” they said. They urged the district administration to look into the matter and get the path leading to the cremation site repaired so that the sufferings of the people could be mitigated. |
