Unity still a distant dream in J&K Congress | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Sept 15: Even as loyalists of Ghulam Nabi Azad were very much present in the official function organized by Pradesh Congress to welcome Rahul Gandhi, unity in the faction-ridden party is still a distant dream. After the much-publicized visit of Rahul Gandhi, none of the Azad loyalists have visited the party office or attended any function organized by another faction. Except presenting a ‘united face’ during the visit of Rahul Gandhi, no further action has been taken to iron out differences between the two warring factions of the party. A senior leader, who owes his loyalty towards Ghulam Nabi Azad told The Early Times that their group is watching activities of dissidents. “Very soon a meeting will be convened in which all leaders including loyalists of Azad would be invited. Things will be cleared only after that meeting”, the leader, wishing anonymity, said. Notable apart from Rahul Gandhi’s visit to Mata Vaishno Devi shrine, there was one political development that was most-watched and discussed in Delhi -- the presence of Ghulam Nabi Azad on the same stage as the former Congress president on September 10.Almost all loyalists of Azad have been boycotting official functions of the party for quite some time. Sources said that after Rahul Gandhi’s visit, many loyalists of Azad met him personally to seek his guidance for the future course of action. In presence of Rahul Gandhi, some leaders have demanded Azad must be given full recharge to revive the Congress party in Jammu and Kashmir. |
