Govt relaxes employment age limit for Ladakh youth, Dogras to wait | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Sept 27: Even as the government of Ladakh has recently decided to relax the age limit for entry into government service by two years, the youth from the nationalist Dogra community in Jammu are waiting for such respite. As per a recent directive, in Ladakh, which comprises of Leh and Kargil districts, the upper age limit for the reserved category candidates has been increased from 43 years to 45 years, for the general category candidates from 40 to 42 years and for the physically challenged candidates from 42 to 44 years. The Ladakh administration has also issued an order to temporarily define 'Resident of Union territory of Ladakh' for the purpose of appointment to all non-gazetted posts. But while similar appeals for age relaxation for government services have been time and again made by the youth of Jammu, who are actually known for their nationalist sentiment, the government is yet to take any decision. It’s pertinent to mention here that the laws, which in the past safeguarded such interests of the people of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh, were actually brought into existence by the iconic Dogra Maharajas. “It was the Dogra Maharajas, who had been so concerned for granting such rights to the people but now the irony is that the Dogra community is awaiting issuance of orders in this regard… It’s is not that Ladakhi brethren should not have got such special relaxations for age limit to join government jobs but the bigger question is why Dogras are being deprived of such relaxations when they have been at the forefront of fighting anti-national elements?” asked a group of Jammuites. While the abrogation of the so called special status of Jammu and Kashmir was expected to end discrimination with the people of Jammu, any such respite is awaited by the Dogra community. |
