| GGM Science College organizes ‘Gift a tree, make it a celebration’ | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Oct 1: NSS unit of GGM Science College Jammu under the patronage of Principal Dr Ravender Tickoo and guidance of NSS PO Dr Deepali Mahajan today celebrated ‘Gift a tree, make it a celebration’, under Swacchta Abhiyan, celebrating 152nd birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi and under the aegis of ‘Azadi Ka Amrut Mahotsav’. The NSS volunteers gifted a sapling to the Principal and the faculty of the college. Gifting a tree is a living legacy. A tree is the only gift that reduces one’s carbon footprint; any other material gift increases it. When you gift a tree, it becomes personal, it becomes a celebration. The efforts were much appreciated by the teachers. The plantation drive was also carried out by NSS volunteers in the campus with enthusiasm and zeal. There cannot be any bigger service to nature and humanity than to plant as many saplings as possible. The benefits of today’s act of plantation will be reaped over by generations. Vriksharopan Abhiyan spreads awareness about tree plantation amongst the society and motivate everyone to nurture plants in their vicinity and beautify our landscapes, the Minister stated. Seeing the little saplings grow in front of our eyes gives the joy of raising a life – a life that in return saves several human lives. Tree Plantation drives combat many environmental issues like deforestation, erosion of soil, desertification in semi-arid areas, global warming and hence enhancing the beauty and balance of the environment.
