UDA hails LG Sinha for lifting ban on sale, purchase of Agricultural land | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Oct 20: United Democratic Alliance (UDA) has welcomed the decision of Administrative Council headed by the Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha to allow Mahajan, Sikh and Khatri communities to purchase and sell agricultural land in the Union Territory Jammu and Kashmir. Addressing media persons here today, the United Democratic Alliance, Convener, Rajiv Mahajan said that we appreciate this most direly needed measure as it will end the discrimination against the aforesaid communities. Though no notification has been issued as yet but it is hoped that the same will be issued within next 30 days, he said adding further that it would be only after going through the notification will the things become clear about whether it really addresses the issues of the aforesaid communities pertaining to agricultural land or it will be only a paper lion to calm these infuriated community members. He asserted that the Alliance will thereafter announce any further course of action if required. Mahajan said that it was really an irony of this Union Territory that this prohibitory law was applicable only in Jammu and Kashmir not anywhere else across the nation. He regretted that no member from Brahmin, Rajput and Muslim biradaris came forward to condemn this law. Even the BJP J&K President Ravinder Raina, who might be celebrating this amendment today, never spoke a single word against this gross injustice with the members of Mahajan, Sikh and Khatri communities. The UDA Convener expressed gratitude to Lt Governor Manoj Sinha for this much-needed decision and hoped that the upcoming notification will do full justice with the members of the aforesaid communities. Others were present in the Press conference Jaswinder Singh (Kuku) from Sikh community and Devender Seth from Vishal Khatri Sabha. |
