Grievance cells, Awam ki Awaz a ‘propaganda’, disabled persons hit streets to get heard | | | Early Times Report
Srinagar, Oct 20: Specially abled persons staged a protest here on Wednesday against the alleged failure of the Jammu and Kashmir Social Welfare Department and General Administration department to address the grievances because of their wrong policies for the empowerment of persons with disabilities. Protesters assembled under the banner of Jammu and Kashmir Handicapped Association, the specially able men and women holding placards assembled at Press Enclave on Residency road demand jobs under the relevant quota. An observer while talking to Early Times said, “The government keeps on trumpeting about multiple grievance redressal systems like Awam Ki Awaz, help lines, cells headed by Deputy Commissioners and online registration of complaints. If there are so many systems then why are disabled persons on streets? Is there no one who can listen to their complaints? It seems all these grievance redressal systems exist on papers only and are aimed at hoodwinking people. Had these systems been working disabled people would not have been on streets.” The specially abled persons demanded that all types of bench mark disabled persons as defined by Indian Rights of persons with disabilities Act 2016 should be identified for class fourth jobs. “The government has no clear policy for the education, employment and accessibility for persons with disabilities in Jammu and Kashmir” the specially abled persons alleged. They alleged that the government has been discriminating and pasting labels of suspects on the severely disable persons . “We are not getting opportunities to perform so how can we prove our abilities' ', they remarked. |
