Babu Raaj: Despite killings, no advisory for non-locals in Kashmir! | | | Early Times Report
Srinagar, Oct 20: Even as the poor non-locals have been facing “target killings” in Kashmir, the Jammu and Kashmir administration has allegedly failed to issue any advisory for them on how to safeguard their lives. While scores of non-locals have been fleeing Kashmir in the wake of spike in killings, those who are staying back have been left to “fend for themselves, atleast on the security point of view.” The Early Times talked to several non-local laborers who are still putting back at their rented accommodations in Kashmir. Most of them told the newspaper that they have not been told anything about “any dos and don’ts by the administration.” Asked if they have been conveyed issues like what are the “secure timings about their movement and if they should restrict their movement”, they replied in negative. “We’ve not been contacted by anyone in the administration as to how to survive in the given circumstances than to talk of anything else,” said a skilled labor earning his livelihood as a fitter. Security experts said it was the responsibility of the administration to issue a “list of dos and don’ts for the non locals.” “For that matter a public notification should have been issued for the non locals as they face a big threat to life. But it seems that the babus are least bothered,” said a security analyst on the condition. A police official however said some helpline has been issued for such cases. On October 17, two non-local labourers were gunned down by terrorists in Wanpoh area of Kulgam district. Another grievously wounded labourer was being treated for multiple injuries. The incident on Sunday was the third attack on non-locals in Kashmir in two days. A street vendor from Bihar was killed in the Eidgah area of Srinagar on Saturday evening. A carpenter from Saharanpur in Uttar Pradesh was killed at Litter in Pulwama district on the same day. So far, 11 people have been killed in targeted attacks in Kashmir, including five hailing from other states in the recent past. |
