Doctors at Fortis Mohali perform THR on morbidly obese patient | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Oct 20: The Orthopaedics team at Fortis Hospital, Mohali, recently performed THR on a 26-year-old morbidly obese patient, weighing 120 kilograms who had severe pain in his left hip joint and had been bedridden for the past one year. Owing to restricted mobility, the patient’s health had deteriorated drastically in the last three months and he exhibited symptoms of suggestive depressive disorder. The hip replacement team led by Dr Sandeep Gupta, Senior Consultant, Orthopaedics, Fortis Hospital Mohali, performed Dual Mobility THR on the patient, Lovedeep Singh, which enabled him to walk comfortably without support. Dual Mobility THR is a recent advancement in the field of hip replacement which offers a relatively longer implant life as compared to previous implants and is particularly advantageous in cases like morbid obesity, spine abnormalities and ligament laxity where there is already an increased risk of dislocation after THR. The patient was mobilized with a walker on the next day of the surgery. Following good rehabilitation and physiotherapy at Fortis Hospital, Mohali the patient attained good mobility status and after six weeks, he was able to walk comfortably without support. The patient’s mental health also significantly improved and today he is leading a normal, healthy life. |
