Diwali arrangements finalised at Udhampur

UDHAMPUR, Nov 1: The arrangements for the smooth and hassle free celebration of upcoming Diwali- the festival of lights were today finalised here at a meeting chaired by Additional Deputy Commissioner, Udhampur Mohammad Syed Khan, here at Conference Hall DC Office.
Threadbare discussions were held on various arrangements viz installation of cracker stalls, security & maintenance of law and order, traffic regulation, drinking water, power supply, sanitation, checking of rates and quality of eatables and deployment of fire tenders.
It was decided in the meeting that a joint inspection of market would be conducted by the officers of Food and Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs, Municipality, Legal Metrology and Revenue departments to keep a check on the rates and quality of products especially sweets, eatables and fruit items during the festive days. Subash Stadium was finalised as the Venue for selling of fire crackers in due adherence to the Supreme Court directions.
The PHE and PDD departments were directed to ensure adequate drinking water and uninterrupted power supply during the Festival Days and at the Subash Stadium venue, where people in large number would visit for purchasing firework crackers. The CEO Municipality was asked to ensure sanitation drive in the town including venue of crackers stalls and its peripheries.
The CMO was asked to make necessary first aid arrangements at the venue i.e Subash stadium for avoiding any untoward incident besides, AD Fire & Emergency services was directed to deploy fire tenders and prepare and submit a layout plan for installation of storage and sale of crackers at the appropriate site as per the laid down norms.
Further, AD Fire & Emergency was directed to keep standby fire fighting tenders at the venue of sale of crackers to meet any eventuality during the sale days. District & Traffic police were asked to ensure proper traffic arrangements during the festive days across the district.
The shopkeepers of the town were asked not to sell crackers at their establishments except the prescribed venue. Public at large was advised to follow COVID appropriate behavior.
The meeting was attended by Xen JPDCL, Anil Gupta; Tehsildar Udhampur, Amit Verma; DHO, Dr Mohd Yaseen; ARTO, Jugal Kumar Sharma; Dy Sp Traffic Himat, Singh; CEO MC, Amit Chowdhary and other officers/officials.The representatives of Beopar Mandal, President Karyana Association, President Halwai Association, and civil society members were also present in the meeting.
