Cold wave continues in Kashmir, Ladakh | | | Early Times Report SRINAGAR, Nov 10: Kashmir valley continued to shiver in cold on Wednesday with further drop in night temperature at most places while Drass and Leh in Ladakh region showed further drop in temperature at minus 12.4 degree Celsius followed by Leh at minus 8.4 degree respectively. A Meteorological Department official said, cold conditions continued to prevail in Kashmir valley at most parts with further drop in minimum temperature making nights colder in the region. Srinagar which recorded seasons coldest night with minimum temperature at minus 0.5 degrees Celsius a day ago settled for the second consecutive day with the same record. Cold weather coupled with thick fog effulged most areas of the Srinagar city early in the morning making visibility low and disrupted normal life. The visibility on the famous Boulevard road on the banks of Dal Lake and other adjacent roads was low due to thick fog surrounding and vehicles were plying keeping head light on. However, with the sunrise the fog faded away gradually. Drass in Ladakh Union Territory was the coldest place in the region with further drop in minimum temperature to minus 12.4 against the 12.1 degree Celsius recorded previous night a few notches above the normal. In Leh it was - 8.4 degree Celsius against the -8.3 degree Celsius recorded on Tuesday. However, Karil showed a bit improvement in the night temperature with minus 6 degree Celsius against minus 6.8 degree Celsius previous night, the MeT office said. He said, Ski resort of Gulmarg recorded a low of minus 1.6 degree Celsius against the minimum temperature of -1.4 degree Celsius recorded on the previous night while the tourist resort of Pahalgam in south Kashmir showed a further drop today with minimum temperature plunged to minus 0.8 degree Celsius against the minus 1.1 degree Celsius a day ago. The MeT office said, the night temperature further plunged at Qazigund on Srinagar-Jammu national highway to minus 0.8 degree Celsius against the minus 1.8 degree Celsius recorded yesterday, one degree drop in the night temperature while at Kokernag also in south Kashmir experienced minus 0.3 degree Celsius against the -0.6 degree Celsius. He said, the Frontier Kashmir district of Kupwara was reeling at - 0.4 degree Celsius, against the -0.5 degree Celsius recorded a day ago. The MeT office predicted a dry weather to continue and night temperature will see a further drop in Kashmir valley during this week. |
