Early Times Report
Kishtwar, Nov 13: There is a proverb “God help those who helps themselves” the people of remote village Afti and Chuidraman in Warwan area of Kishtwar District are helping themselves by constructing a wooden bridge over river “Marusudhar” which was damaged due to heavy snowfall last month. Locals told Early Times that Chuidraman-Afti footbridge was in a dilapidated condition before the snowfall and we had requested the authorities to repair it. “But our pleas fell on deaf ears,” they said, adding, “Finally this bridge collapsed last month after a heavy snowfall. Fortunately there was no loss of life. However despite repeated requests to the administration to reconstruct this bridge, no action was taken. Now we have started to construct a makeshift bridge at our own expense.” “District Administration Kishtwar should take note of this issue and pass on directions to the concerned agencies to do the needful at the earliest so that the sufferings of the public could be minimised, especially keeping in view the harsh winter ahead” the locals of Warwan area said. They said that in absence of a bridge various areas of upper Warwan have got disconnected due to which people are facing a lot of difficulties. Meanwhile senior officials in District administration told the Early Times that Deputy Commissioner Kishtwar Ashok Kumar in a meeting held a few days ago has issued directions to take immediate construction of the Afti bridge under SDRF. “The process for the same has been initiated after the instructions from the Deputy Commissioner,” the officials added. |
