Claims Exposed | | | The central team expressing unhappiness over the steps taken by the local authorities to tackle Dengue in Jammu region has once again exposed the tall claims of the administration about it being well prepared to handle any crisis. In the Jammu region, Dengue cases have almost touched 1500 with Jammu district being worst affected as the administration seems to be running out of ideas about how to tackle the situation. Recently a central team visited Jammu to take stock of the situation. It expressed dismay over the way the situation has been handled. It’s unfortunate that the local authorities are focusing more on advertisements than taking practical steps from handling the outbreak of the disease. It was for the first time since 2014 that Jammu district has crossed all records of the Dengue cases due to the lackadaisical attitude of the authorities. The outbreak of Dengue and its mishandling have once again triggered panic among the people who fear that it could lead to the repeat of what happened during the COVID-19 era. The hospitals were ill equipped to handle the rush of patients and facilities were not upto the mark. Patients and their attendants had to face immense hardships after the COVID-19 pandemic broke. The authorities should learn from the mistakes they have committed in the past and focus on improving the healthcare system rather than making noise about J&K being in a strong position to handle Dengue. People need to be made aware about the measures that could be taken to prevent Dengue. Awareness is important as it holds the key. People need to know dos and don’ts. After fighting COVID-19 for two years, no one wants another crisis to hit the people. More Dengue testing facilities should be put in place. People need to be told that they can’t keep the water tanks open, and nor can they allow water to remain stagnant at one place. The administration needs to pull up its socks and take practical measures to prevent the Dengue from turning into a monster. Making noise won’t help. It will just create a false notion and will allow the crisis to snowball into a measure concern, which no one will be able to handle. The government needs to act before it becomes late. The Central team has pointed out the lacunas and this need to be taken care off.
