JKCMWA vows to fight for rights of Christians | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Nov 17: A meeting of JK Christian Minority Welfare Association (JKCMWA) was held here today at Christian Colony, Residency Road Jammu under the chairmanship of Nassir Masih in order to chalk out future strategies to fight for the Christians' rights Nassir Masih while speaking in the meeting said that the Jammu and Kashmir government last year set up a commission to examine the social and educational backwardness of various backward classes' people, including Dalits and other downtrodden communities of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir beside those of scheduled castes and scheduled tribes. We being the socially and economically backward community of Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir strongly appealed to the Government of India and Lieutenant Governor to include a member from the Christian community in the commission to give justice and to mitigate the suffering of the Christian community Michael Wazir, President of the Association expressed his resentment over the continuous ignorance and neglect of this oppressed Christian community by every successive government. He while expressing his pain over the indifferent attitude of Union government toward the Christian community said the current position is inconsistent and unjust. Michael Wazir appealed to the Lieutenant Governor of JKUT to provide solace by appointing a member from the Christian community to the socially and economically backward commission. Christian community hoped that this step would usher prosperity and sense of dignity to this most deserving Christian community. Vinod Sotra presented the vote of thanks to those who vow to stand with the organization in fighting for the right of this community. |
