Cold condition prevails in Kashmir, Ladakh | | | Early Times Report
Srinagar, Nov 19: Cold conditions intensified in the Kashmir Valley and Ladakh region on Friday as night temperatures plunged across the union territories. After witnessing the night temperature above normal a day ago following an overcast sky, Srinagar recorded a minimum temperature of minus 1.4 degrees Celsius on Friday against the 2.1 degrees recorded on Thursday. Cold weather conditions coupled with fog engulfed Srinagar and its neighboring areas disrupting normal activities. Tourist resort of Pahalgam in south Kashmir recorded minus 3.9 degrees Celsius against Thursday’s minus 0.5 degrees. Qazigund on the Srinagar-Jammu national highway also saw a dip in the night temperature as it recorded minus 1.3 degrees against 0.4 yesterday. Similarly at Kokernag the night temperature was recorded at minus 0.8 against the 0.7 degree Celsius yesterday. The ski resort of Gulmarg in north Kashmir recorded minus 1.5 degrees Celsius against the minus 1 degree Celsius a day ago. In the frontier Kashmir district of Kupwara it was minus 2 degrees Celsius against minus 2 degrees Celsius recorded the previous day. Drass, Leh and Kargil in Ladakh UT also showed a dip in night temperatures following clear sky. Drass plunged to minus 10.6 degrees Celsius against the minus 5 degrees yesterday; while Kargil was at minus 8.5 against minus 5.9 degrees and Leh recorded minus 6.6 against minus 6.4 degree Celsius. Weather is most likely to remain dry till November 23, Meteorological Department said, and added there would be light snow over extreme north of Kashmir during the November 24 night, the MeT office said. |
