Congress pays tributes to Indira Gandhi on her 104th birth anniversary

JAMMU, Nov 19: The Congress party on Friday paid rich tributes to former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi on her 104th birth anniversary. Former Minister Raman Bhalla, Vice President PCC, Former Minister Yogesh Sawhney General Secretary PCC & Incharge District President Jammu (U) and PCC & DCC J (U) leaders remembered the former PM for her contributions and achievements. They paid tributes to her statue at Indira Chowk in a small ceremony organized by Councillor Ritu Choudhary. They then paid floral tributes to her at the Congress office in Shaheedi Chowk to celebrate her legacy. Calling her an exemplary leader, they recalled her contributions to the economy, foreign affairs, and nation building.
Former Minister Raman Bhalla recalled Indira Gandhi as one of the most powerful and inspirational figures in Indian history, saying that the former prime minister played an important role in establishing India as a strong country. During her tenure as Prime Minister, Indira Gandhi took many decisions which changed the course of India's history. There is a huge contribution of Indira Gandhi in the strong position that India enjoys today.
The Congress party workers will continue to stand in the support of people at the grassroots level to raise serious issues. The anti-people policies of the BJP government must be countered with the secular and inclusive values taught by Indira Gandhi, he added.
Speaking at the event, former Minister Yogesh Sawhney remembered her for her strong will and courage in leading the country and impressive leadership. On her birth anniversary we pay homage to India's first female Prime Minister who led with great love for the country and a commitment to take the nation at the greatest heights, he said.
Kanta Bhan, Vice President PCC also paid homage to the leader by recalling her achievements and said that blessed with a strong, capable leadership and amazing management ability, the iron lady played a key role in the development of India.
Also speaking at the event, Thakur Balwan Singh General Secretary PCC remembered Indira Gandhi's contribution to the Indian economy and foreign politics.
Rajnish Sharma Co-Treasurer PCC paid his respects and said that on her birth anniversary we must remember that she ushered in immense growth and development through her policies.
Swaran Singh, Sanjeev Panda, Shashi Sharma, Gajjan Singh, Karan Bhagat, and several others attended the function and paid tributes to the former Prime Minister.
