GDC Vijaypur organizes webinar on concluding day of National Library week

JAMMU, Nov 20: GDC Vijaypur organized a webinar on the concluding day of National Library week on the topic: "Library Then and Now: Its Relevance to New Generation".
The resource person for the webinar was Prof. (Dr.) Sangita Gupta, Head of Department of Library and Information Science, University of Jammu. In the welcome address Prof. (Dr.) Sangeeta Sudan, Principal, GDC Vijaypur introduced the speaker and highlighted the contribution of libraries in all the stages of educational pyramid.
She exhorted that Library is one of the most effective means of making information available to the society and nation for its cultural, economic and social progress and development. Library is for propagation of basic knowledge, preservation and dissemination of human culture and civilization. The resource person Prof. (Dr.) Sangita Gupta stressed that there is no alternative for books even in the digital age. Books make us knowledgeable and are the most important part of education. The library helps students as well as teachers to gather more knowledge about any particular subject. Spending time in a library is the best thing one can do to increase his or her knowledge.
She further mentioned various strategies to encourage students to use their local library and how the parents can contribute in improving the reading skills of their children by involving themselves, by narrating stories and enacting various characters. She focussed on how libraries have played the influential role during the time of pandemic. Moreover, she highlighted that the purpose of the library in modern societies is to give information support to the institutions of education and learning, policy and decision making bodies, industry and to the members of the community in the widest sense for raising awareness and education on issues of common interest to the society, in health and social welfare.
The event was coordinated by Disha Arti, Librarian, GDC Vijaypur while the organizing committee comprised of Dr. Kuldeep Singh, (H.O.D Punjabi), Dr Shittal Sharma, (H.O.D Mathematics), Prof. Anil Bhagat, (H.O.D Commerce), Prof. Poonam Kundan, (H.O.D. Dept. of Environmental Sciences). The formal vote of thanks was presented by Dr. Shittal Sharma, (H.O.D. Mathematics). A large number of students, teaching and non-teaching faculty members of the college attended the webinar.
