Construction workers stage protest demonstration | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Dec 2: A large number of construction workers working in organized and unorganized sector staged a protest demonstration under the banner of CITU before the office of Labour Commissioner (J&K) Railhead Jammu. Om Parkash, General Secretary JKCITU, said in his address that UT government has constituted a committee for identification and verification of beneficiaries with the concerned Dy Commissioner as Chairperson is totally illegal and unlawful as such decision should be taken by the BOCW Welfare Board that constituted under the laws. He urged upon the government to withdraw the order immediately. He demanded impartial judicial inquiry in the case of self immolation by a worker namely Kamal before the office of Labour Department. While addressing the workers, Jagdish Sharma, National Secretary of CWFI, said that move of the Central government to repeal the existing labour laws to four labour codes has continuously been agitated by the working class of the country. He said that the code on social security is totally silent on detail of welfare benefits, entitlement, mode of delivery, management of fund and has also ignored the suggestion of trade unions on cess collection. Muzafar Wani, Vice President JKCITU, while addressing demanded that the registration and renewal process within week’s time, renewal period extends from one year to five years, 90 days employment certificate by registered trade union be considered valid, timely payment of scholarship, death compensation, medical assistance, maternity and other claims, Rs 3000 pension and Covid relief for complete four months to all registered workers etc. Liaqat Ali, President of Border Roads Casual Paid Workers Union (J&K), while addressing the workers demanded social security benefits such as EPF, ESI, Pension etc to all CPL workers, same wages for the same and similar work, regularization of CPL workers, 30 days full month wage, and safety equipments. Others who spoke on this occasion included Romesh Chand, Nishat Qazi, Ajeet Raj, Govind Singh and Dhanajay Singh. |
