IT Deptt, CGST conducts outreach programme cum interactive session at Udhampur

UDHAMPUR, Dec 6: Income Tax Department Udhampur in collaboration with Central Goods and Services Tax Department today conducted a day long outreach programme and interactive session of Tax Administrator with stakeholders of the District here at KDN Palace Udhampur.
Principal Commissioner of Income Tax, ReFAC AU Smt Mona Singh was the chief guest on the occasion.
Deputy Director, CGST, Jammu Kanav Sharma, ITO Jammu, Durga Koul, President Hotel & Bar Association Udhampur Vikram Slathia, Chairman, Chamber of Commerce & Industry, Shyam Kalsotra, President Income Tax Bar Association Udhampur, Rajeev Gupta, President Beopar Mandal, Jitender Vermani and other officers/officials of Income Tax department besides stakeholders were attended the programme on the occasion.
At the outset, ITO, Udhampur M L Dogra presented welcome address and briefed about the programme. The programme was started with National anthem followed by lighting of the traditional lamp.
Mona Singh made participants aware about the importance of quoting PAN in all financial transactions, the benefits available to senior citizens, rebate under section 87A, measures to curb black money and Benami transactions and steps to discourage cash transactions. The ease of obtaining E-PAN through Aadhar was also highlighted. It was further informed that Annual Information Statement (AIS) is being shared with all Taxpayers on e-filing portal containing all their financial and tax related information available with the department. All the participants were requested to make people aware about the role of taxes in the nation building process. Deputy Director CGST also sensitize the stakeholders about the GST and threw light on various provisions incorporated in the GST Act. He gave a detailed PowerPoint presentation regarding GST and also replied to the queries of businessmen and traders.
During the interactive session the participants raised various issues and also stressed the need to have package for small business men who have been hit hard by the spread of Covid Pandemic . It was added that at one point of time Udhampur used to be equal to Jammu and Srinagar but over the years has lost its importance and therefore many steps are required to bring back its lost glory. The move of holding Outreach was welcomed but it was added that it should be a regular feature and more awareness program is required to emphasise the need to respond to the notices well in time.
Besides outreach programs, "Taxpayers Awareness Camps" were also organized today at Udhampur to address the problems being faced by the taxpayer. Feedback from the people was taken by the two departments on taxation issues and their aspirations from the forthcoming Union Budget.
