JAMMU, Dec 9: “Understanding the ‘Self”, an extensive theatre workshop which focuses on psycho-physical acting was inaugurated today at Natrang Studio Theatre, Jammu. Senior functionaries of Natrang, Padmashri Balwant Thakur, Suresh Kumar, Dr. Karan Rana and Aarushi Thakur Rana were present at the occasion. The workshop is being conducted by Baljeet Singh, an alumni of National School of Drama, New Delhi. Thakur informed that Natrang has chalked-out a series of training/orientation programmes for the youth and children to provide them a platform to explore and express their creativity. He complemented the expert directors/trainers who have come forward to enlighten the theatre aspirants with their vast experience. Baljeet is an actor, director and acting trainer from Sirla-Bhaga, Reasi, Jammu and Kashmir. He had a deep interest in artistic activities like singing, performing, and painting from childhood. But the decision to make a career in theatre was taken later in his life, after completing his graduation from Maulana Azad Memorial College, Jammu University and earning a Master's Degree from the Centre for Political Studies Jawaharlal Nehru University (2010-12), New Delhi. The course aims to provide the participants with a practical approach involving experience and feeling, among other things and also to understand the ‘Self’ from a different perspective. The workshop contains the elements of Alexander Technique to improve the quality of singing, playing, acting or dancing of actors and also the methods of Michael Chekhov which considers the actor a free creative artist involving imagination and psycho- physical techniques. |
