Maharaja Hari Singh Ji is integral to Dogra legacy
12/17/2021 10:59:01 PM
Shri Maharaja Hari Singh Ji is an integral part of the Dogra legacy. But what is shocking is that the Jammu and Kashmir government has miserably failed to recognize this reality.
Even though numerous promises were made -by politicians and even the government itself –the declaration of government holiday on the birth anniversary of the Maharaja on September 23 is yet to see the light of the day.
While the J&K government has released its list of gazette holidays for the 2022, there’s no mention of the much-expected holiday on September 23.
Interestingly, the Kashmir-centric politicians had declared holiday on the birth anniversary of their “ beloved leader”, who actually never stood for one-India.
The demand for holiday on Mahajara’s birth anniversary, however, has been ignored for over seven decades now.
Whereas the abrogation of the so-called special status of Jammu and Kashmir was supposed to end the discrimination with the allegedly neglected Dogra community, the declaration of government holiday on Mahajara’s big day remains a dream.
This is despite the fact that in July 2019, a month before the abrogation of the so called special status, the Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) had passed a resolution to declare the birth anniversary of the beloved Dogra Maharaja as government holiday.
The resolution was sent to the then Governor Satya Pal Malik for his consent.
Till now, there has been no breakthrough. Ironically, while Malik remained tight lipped on the issue, his successor and Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha hasn’t uttered a word to plead government failure in fulfilling this dream of the people.
The corridors of power may be dilly-dallying the genuine demand for one reason or the other, but for the people of Jammu seeking revival of the Dogra legacy will remain our focus.
The Dogra Maharajas were not any ordinary rulers but icons of the royal legacy, who left behind the history of a golden era. The history remembers them for their valor, pride and people-friendly initiatives, which continue to inspire even the modern day democracy.
The government must make its stand clear because for the Dogra community, declaration of holiday on the birth anniversary of Shri Maharaja Hari Singh Ji, is a demand close to our hearts.
