Dogri Sanstha celebrates Manta Din by honouring veterans

JAMMU, Dec 22: Dogri Manta Din was celebrated with fervor by Dogri Sanstha Jammu in which veteran Dogri writers, artists and others working for promotion of Dogri were honoured.
The function was held at KL Sehgal Hall in which Prof Manoj K Dhar, Vice Chancellor, University of Jammu was the chief guest while Prof SP Saraswat, Principal Government College for Women, Parade was the guest of honour.
Those honoured on this occasion included veteran writers, Inderjeet Kesar, Krishna Prem (Sharma) and Abhishap; and renowned folk dancer and poet Khajur Singh; and senior journalist, social activist and chairperson of Team Jammu Zorawar Singh Jamwal.
Before the felicitation ceremony a music programme based on Dogri songs was presented by the students of Government PG College for Women Parade namely Sameeksha, Simran Gurtu, Shriya Gurtu, Simran Pashi and Ranju Jasrotia. Tabla and harmonium accompaniment to the singers was provided by Abhishek Sehgal and Krishan Kumar Johny respectively and the songs were prepared under the supervision of Prof Anupama Sharma.
Speaking on the occasion Prof Saraswat commended the efforts of Dogri Sanstha for promotion of Dogri language. He said that Manta Din is a proud day for all Dogras which should be celebrated all over the Jammu region.
Prof Manoj Dhar in his address congratulated those honoured on this occasion and said that declaration of Dogri as official language of Jammu and Kashmir augers well for Dogri and will open up many new avenues for this language. He shared with the audience that Jammu University is taking all necessary steps to start the Centre of Excellence in Dogri, as desired by the Lt Governor.
Prof Lalit Magotra, President Dogri Sanstha, at the very outset of the programme declared that this function is dedicated to the memory of Padmashri Padma Sachdev. He introduced the programme and shared the future plans of Dogri Sanstha and disclosed that the Auditorium of Dogri Sanstha at Karan Nagar is nearing completion, thanks to the grant of Rs 40 lakhs provided by Jammu Municipal Corporation for this purpose.
The programme was anchored and conducted by Promila Manhas who also thanked all concerned at the end of the programme
