Online webinar celebrating National Mathematics Day inaugurated at SMVDU

KATRA, Dec 22: A two-day long online webinar to mark the "National Mathematics Day" celebrations inaugurated at Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University (SMVDU).
The webinar is being organized by the School of Mathematics, SMVDU. Eminent Mathematicians from Institutes of National importance have been invited to deliberate on the life and work of legendary Mathematician Srinivas Ramanujan. Prof RK Sinha, Vice Chancellor, SMVD University was the chief guest at the inaugural ceremony. Prof Sinha said that the importance of celebration of Mathematics Day to popularize the subject among the masses, and he also recalled the work Indian mathematician Prof Vasistha Narayan Singh who was an alumnus of Patna Science College.
Prof Ashok K Sharma, Dean, Faculty of Sciences, graced the occasion with his kind presence and narrated some inspiring incidences of life of S Ramanujan. Dr Uday Pratap Singh, Head, School of Mathematics and Convener of the webinar presented the welcome address. Dr Surender Singh, Coordinator of the webinar briefed about the objectives and probable outcomes of the webinar. Dr Kamni Pathania, School of Physics conducted the proceedings of the inaugural session of the webinar and Dr Sandeep Sharma, Organizing Secretary of the webinar proposed the vote of thanks.
Prof VK Bhat, Dean, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, SMVDU, Dr AK Das, Director, Directorate of Quality Assurance, SMVDU, Dr Sandeep Bhougal, Co-Coordinator, webinar and Staff members, Rohit Uppal and Mridul Prashar were also present in the inaugural ceremony. The two day webinar is expected to motivate and sensitize the budding Mathematicians of UT of Jammu and Kashmir and other parts of the country to pursue research in Mathematics in the deeper sense.
